downthetubes British Comics Forum

A group for fans of British Comics

Hi everyone,

I was watching the news via the internet (no tv) and I am still amazed at the extent of these floods. I was thinking about all the people who are effected by it all, especially those who have no insurance against this and the families. I thought about an idea to raise some money for a fund to help (every little helps), using our talents.

The idea is simply this. A comic to be sold to raise money and awareness. But I need your help. Would any of you be able to produce a one page story or illustration in which ever format you like?

The only requirement is to use the theme "Flood".

If you are interested and want to get involved, let me know and we can start getting it off the ground.

Let me know what you think. Once we get it started we can then start promoting it to the various news agencies to gain more awareness!

Hi Adam - I've just sent a script to Simon Mackie for a one pager. Get in touch with me off list (use the email address on downthetubes web site for now): I'm sure I can put out a wider appeal on this but would be good to have a chat so I can find out the page extent you're considering, and you have a huge list of contacts too so there's no point in doubling up and this is your baby!

Are you thinking standard comic book size in terms of finished product? Better chance of getting wider distribution.

Hi All,

Let me know your realistic time scale for completing a page for the Flood comic. How much time do you need? Who is writing for which artist? Who needs an artist? Let's begin the process...

Have you decided where the money will go? The Red Cross deals with floods in both the UK and Asia. Speaking personally I'd like to see the money go to a charity that covered both.

Hullo there!

For my one page contribution, I've decided to do a number of three/four panel toons to go on the page. The first of these is a Drink Like A Fish flood special, ably illustrated by the talented Toshiro De Smeyter. I'll also be sending a three/four panel script to Paul Eldridge to illustrate (when I think of one!). This'll probably leave room for one or two more strips to go on the page, so if anyone's interested in drawing a three panel cartoon, let me know and I'll send you a script.

Adam - I'll email you the A4 Drink Like A Fish toon soon. Adam/John Freeman/anyone else, feel free to use the smaller one attached below to promote the Flood Awareness comic over the internet and help draw in more creators.

Cheers for this, Toshiro! Always a pleasure to work with you.

Great stuff as usual David. Adam -- got time for an update on who's contributing? And can we roll out the appeal to the wider universe?

I would love to use this strip... forward on a high res asap to adgros@hotmail.com. If anyone else has theirs ready to send on, it would be great to receive and begin putting the comic together on what I have. I will be doing a blog to get some info out there for you and others to be aware. Great job. Also, if people can let me know how they are doing and their plans, that would be great. Ad x

Hi Adam
As I thing you already know, I'm worrking on a strip with John Freeman. I'm also cover artist for a Civil Service publication called SEView
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Because several readers of this magazine were greatly attected by the floods there have already been a few complaints. To make those affended feel a bit better the editor wanted to mention somewhere in the magazine the fact that I'm also working on your publication. What he needs to know is the charity/ies that your anthology is aimed at. Any chance of letting me know? Also any ideas of the deadline/ publication date?
Cheers mate

I've been under the weather recently, hence a bit quite of late. The Floods comic will be either 32 or 48 pages, depending on how many get involoved. I will be writing a blog about it this weekend, giving all the details and contact info, as I know people need info. Currently the idea is set for a download first then a book. I am just coming out from the flu bug and am organising things. Keep an eye on http://adgros.blogspot.com for more details. The current plan is to have some stuff for Oct/ Nov if possible. It would be great to have something available as a download, ready for people to have. As a book, I hope to have something to print up soon after. I will have more confirmed details on my blog tomorrow as I will be working things out and getting a plan together this evening. Ad x

Can people e-mail me to confirm their contributions. Who's writing, who's drawing etc... It would be great so I can start putting the blog together and get the info out there in the net world. Particularly with blogs, facebook, myspace, comic space, temple, down the tubes, digg etc... e-mail me at adgros@hotmail.com and send on your personal e-mail so I can get a folder together of all who is contributing. Hi, It has been a while and I would like to thank you all for your patience. I have written some news on my blog and I will be putting something more out of the next few days, with regard to the charity comic 'Flood'.

I would like to thank those who have sent me their strips so far, John Freeman and Simon Mackie, Sputnik, Dave Hailwood... So far I have four (including mine). I am hoping we can get this out this year. I will be placing more info out tomorrow/ Saturday.

I know it is Birmingham Comics convention this weekend and if anyone is going, if you could spread word about it to people, that would be great. I was hoping to come along myself, unfortunately my finances dictate. I am looking to get the comic printed in time for Bristol though.. well, well before if I can and at least a download version before Christmas... an early christmas gift.

Let me know how you are all doing... I shall be in contact.

Much Love

Adman.
