This painting shows how Neil Armstrong would have looked (since there are no photos) while taking the iconic photo of his lunar companion. This painting is a mirror image of the First Men - Aldrin painting held in Washington's National Air and Space Museum which will premiere Alan Bean: Painting Apollo, First Artist On Another World at the Museum on the National Mall July 16, 2009 through January 13, 2010 in conjunction with the 40th Anniversary of the first Apollo Moon landings.

I love Alan Bean's artwork. If you look at the Apollo Image Gallery you'll see colour photos of the moon's surface that show how GREY and colourless it is. Bean's subtle texturing and muted colours emulate it in colour beautifully. And this painting shows what a humble man he must be. Great idea this gallery John,
