About Me:

I'm a comics and features writer who has worked in comics and magazine publishing in the UK for over 20 years. My British comics news and features web site, downthetubes.net, web site features news about British comics and a comics writing guide.

I'm working part time for ROK Comics on their Indian comics platform and other mobile comic related projects and as an editor for some of Titan Books print British comics collections, as well as a few other projects for other companies.

ROK Comics enables comics creators to create or adapt their strips for mobile phones, which can be delivered worldwide through WAP subscription and single downloads -- potentially reaching a much bigger audience than that for web-based comics. Unfortunately the parent company was hit hard by the credit crunch and development there has been scaled back, until very recently (August 2009).

I've written comic strips for various companies such as Marvel, Fleetway, Lucky Bag and commercial companies seeking to use comics as a promotional device. Currently I'm writing a science fiction strip, Ex Astris, for the British SF comics magazine Spaceship Away.

I've also edited various magazines including the official Babylon 5, Doctor Who, Star Trek and Star Wars Magazines.

Hi, John.

Been away since September and just started to get back into things. Love the improvements to the site. Great to be able to feed my Wordpress blog here. That way people can see what I'm up to more easily and read the comics too.

Must get sociable now and gain some new friends.

Cheers.

thanks for your kind words, started going in a different tangent now, more of a trad comic style and doing some colour work for a friend of mine.

Ey Yup, John!

Would be great if you could add POOT COMIC to your list of British comics.  They don't come more British than us!!  All material is entirely home grown - we're not owned by some faceless corporate...and we're doing well!  We're now sold through WH Smiths Travel, plus lots of independents, as well as sales through our website www.pootcomic.com

Issue 7 should be out back end of next week.  If you get me your address I'll send you a copy plus some back issues - would be interested to hear what you think.

Hi, John,

Well I'm not working on a comic per se, but on the Quality Companion, a book about that publisher  for Two Morrows (http://bit.ly/i2jTvB). I'm doing some research and had hoped to be able to contact Tony Ingram about an article that he wrote.

Thanks John, just having a look around at this stage. Have been looking for a UK resource and community for comic-makers in the UK.

Thank you so much for the welcome John!

I'd like to make an impact in the European market  with my comic, The Forsaken". Hopefully I'll be able to gauge the response by this forum.

Thanks again for the welcome!

Hi John,

After much delay, I have finally got back to Down the Tubes, having fought my way out from under teaching commitments and the madness of post-publication promotion of 'Yuri's Day'.

I have posted a reply on the forum giving some background on the project, and saying thanks for the very constructive criticism members gave.

Regards, Andrew
